with Castle Rock, which produced <em>The Shawshank Redemption<\/em> for him back in 1994. \u00a0The first film was the hit <em>The Green Mile<\/em> and the second would be the\u00a0Capra-esque <em>The Majestic<\/em>. \u00a0Jim Carrey dropped out of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bombreport.com\/yearly-breakdowns\/2002-2\/death-to-smoochy\/\">Death To Smoochy<\/a><\/em> to top-line <em>The Majestic<\/em> and both ended as commercial disasters.<\/p>\r\n<p>Warner Bros had very high hopes for the movie and dated it as their Christmas release and <em>The Majestic<\/em> would be WB&#8217;s final end of the year heavy hitter after <em>Harry Potter and the Sorcerer&#8217;s Stone<\/em> and <em>Ocean&#8217;s Eleven<\/em>.\u00a0 The Christmas frame was incredibly crowded in 2001 and <em>The Majestic<\/em>\u00a0opened on December 21 against <em>The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring <\/em>(released by WB&#8217;s corporate sibling New Line)<em>, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, How High, <a href=\"https:\/\/bombreport.com\/yearly-breakdowns\/2001-2\/joe-somebody\/\">Joe Somebody<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u2014 and also <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bombreport.com\/yearly-breakdowns\/2001-2\/ali\/\">Ali<\/a><\/em> and <em>Kate and Leopold<\/em> opened on the 25th.<\/p>\r\n<p>Any awards hope and hype for the film were extinguished when the reviews posted, which were horrible and <em>The Majestic<\/em> was lost in the competitive\u00a0market.\u00a0 WB held 500 sneak previews the week before its release to drum up word of mouth, but it tanked &#8212;\u00a0 placing #8 for the weekend with a poor $4,904,339. \u00a0The pic saw a 10.6% uptick in business over the New Year&#8217;s frame and posted $5,422,482 but then declined 41.2% in its third weekend\u00a0to\u00a0$3,187,261. \u00a0<em>The Majestic<\/em> quickly bombed out of release with $27,807,266.<\/p>\r\n<p>After <em>The Majestic<\/em> tanked at the domestic box office, Warner Bros mostly dumped the picture overseas. \u00a0Japan posted $5.3 million, which comprised the majority of its awful $9.5 million offshore cume. \u00a0The worldwide total was $37.3 million and WB would see returned about $20.5 million after theaters take their percentage of the gross. \u00a0Much\u00a0of the worldwide P&amp;A spend would be in the red and the budget untouched from the theatrical receipts.<\/p>\r\n<p>Castle Rock had only two movies in 2001, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bombreport.com\/yearly-breakdowns\/2001-2\/hearts-in-atlantis\/\">Hearts In Atlantis<\/a><\/em> and <em>The Majestic<\/em>. \u00a0In 2002, Warner Bros closed Castle Rock\u2019s physical production departments and the company would no longer have any of its own public relations and 16 of Castle Rock\u2019s 46 employees were fired and the rest absorbed into Warner Bros. \u00a0Factoring into Castle Rock\u2019s reduced operations, were the\u00a0box office losers <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bombreport.com\/yearly-breakdowns\/2000-2\/proof-of-life\/\">Proof Of Life<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bombreport.com\/yearly-breakdowns\/2002-2\/murder-by-numbers\/\">Murder By Numbers<\/a>, Hearts In Atlantis, The Majestic<\/em> and also at this time Warner Bros was prepared to finally release Castle Rock\u2019s long delayed and expensive disaster <em><a
