Alone is an extremely effective cat-and-mouse thriller and a taut exercise in nail biting suspense & tension, stripped down to it's core with economic storytelling. It knows what it is, makes good use of it's simple premise and doesn't outstay it's welcome. Jules Willcox and Marc Menchaca were both solid.
This doesn't really sustain the formal and narrative precision of its opening third, but taken as a whole this is, as expected, a sturdy and unreconstructed bit of thriller work. Has one job, totally kills that job.
Stripped down, suspenseful and doesn’t fuck around. Most tense thing I’ve seen this year.
Alone is the best example of how you can make a good intense thriller with a simple and straightforward narrative without fucking around with a cheap predictable twist.
Jessica a widow is moving from Portland to some unknown place but is stalked by a middle-aged guy who is actually a serial killer, the movie has great intense scenes in the beginning that one can relate to like there is this scene when our antagonist parks his car in the middle of the road trying to stop Jessica for help but she knows there is something shady about him so she just keeps driving I loved that scene I've been in that situation and that is exactly what one should do,…
my butthole was clenched throughout this entire film because i was so stressed. my sphincter is now stronger than ever
Why isn’t this a cult classic yet? On a budget of just $750K, Hyams does cars, rivers, rain, fights, and chases. This feels like a $5M film. A massive accomplishment. Alone is a suspenseful blend of Duel and Joy Ride, with a dash of Breakdown but from the wife’s POV. It’s a seriously overlooked thriller that’s tense from start to finish. A genre fest needs to do a revival screening of this asap.
The way I was yelling "BRAKE" at the beginning of the movie was surely heard by my neighbors.
Yeah, I love this. It’s so simple, yet incredibly assured in its direction. I really liked how it slowly cultivates that creeping sense of unease—like a shadow lurking just out of sight, patient and deliberate. It perfectly captures that eerie feeling of walking alone at night, sensing that something is off, that unseen eyes are watching from the darkness. This is one of those films that doesn’t overreach or try too hard. Instead, it stays effortlessly controlled, never losing its grip or rushing ahead of itself.
A story that’s nothing new. It doesn’t necessarily surprise with its resolution, but this is about…
very lean little dtv road rage cat-and-mouse thriller akin to something like Duel or Breakdown that becomes a creepy kidnapping/survival movie. good sense of space and tension while tracking the logistics of her escape with some pretty brutal combat when it makes an appearance. nothing you haven't seen before but solidly crafted.
