Markdown docs, Pro

Organize your docs. Help readers find them.

Structure a knowledge base for one product or many. Everything here is included in Free and Pro.

Products, sections and tags

Create unlimited products, sections and sub-sections. Choose single or multi-product mode, and group articles by theme with tags.

Blocks, shortcodes and widgets

Add listings with the Knowledge Base block or the [knowledgebase] shortcode. Eight blocks and four widgets cover listings, search, breadcrumbs, related articles and alerts.

Search and navigation

Live search suggestions appear as visitors type. Breadcrumbs show where readers are, an automatic table of contents is built from article headings, and related articles appear below each article.

Layouts and templates

Responsive grid layouts ship with the plugin. Style them with your own CSS, override templates in your theme, or use the block templates and patterns in a block theme.

Permalinks and content

Change the base slugs for articles, sections, products and tags. Write articles in the native editor, and add alert boxes with the [kbalert] shortcode or the Alerts block.

Performance and languages

Built-in caching keeps listings fast, with a separate cache for each language. WPML, Polylang and TranslatePress are supported, including translated products, sections and tags.

Setup and developers

Works on single sites and multisite networks. The Setup Wizard creates your structure and sample content, and settings export and import as JSON. Developers get hooks, a REST API and Abilities API tools for article search and section discovery.

Knowledge Base Pro

Gather feedback, guide readers and scale your docs

Knowledge Base Pro is a standalone plugin that includes every Free feature.

Find out what readers think

Readers rate articles with a binary or 5-star score. A low rating can ask a follow-up question, admins can get an email for each new rating, and admin lists can sort by Bayesian average.

Tracking and privacy

Choose a GDPR-friendly tracking mode, and use the suggested privacy policy text from the documentation.

Answer questions without leaving the page

A floating help widget gives live search and suggested articles on every page, and a contact form sends email notifications to you.

Labels, colors and suggestions

Set the widget labels and colors. Suggested articles are limited to published articles.

Build a three-column docs site

Documentation Layout Mode puts a sticky section tree on the left, the article in the center and an On this page outline on the right. It works on the knowledge base home, product and section archives, articles and search results.

Section Tree block and widget

The Section Tree is context-aware and highlights the current page. Use it as a block or a sidebar widget anywhere.

Control how the knowledge base looks

Choose from seven more layout styles, show the knowledge base as your homepage, and add a table of contents as a sidebar widget, a block or a floating panel.

Archive images

Featured images can appear on product and section archive pages.

Control URLs and caching

Build permalinks for articles, sections, tags and products from dynamic placeholders. Set the cache lifetime, clear the cache from the settings page, and flush permalinks from Settings.

Multilingual sites

With WPML, set the language URL format to Directory so custom permalink structures resolve for each language.

Read the permalinks tutorial

Manage content from GitHub or files

Sync Markdown documentation with a GitHub repository: a push updates the matching articles through a webhook, and changes can be pushed back. Export articles as a Markdown ZIP, SQL dump or XLSX file, and import a Markdown ZIP with taxonomy mapping.

Frontmatter and mapping

YAML frontmatter controls the slug, title, products and sections. Map repositories in Settings or on product terms.

Beta

Ask the Docs

Visitors ask a question in plain language and get a short answer drawn only from your published articles, with links to the sources. When the articles do not cover the question, it says so and points to the search results; an optional Content gaps report shows which questions went unanswered.

Turned on in Settings under AI (Beta). Requires WordPress 7.0+ and an AI provider connected under Settings, then Connectors. The provider bills each request.

Usage controls

Answers are cached, with daily and per-visitor limits, fallback providers and model comparison. The knowledgebase/ask ability and a draft-only knowledgebase/create-article ability are available to the WordPress Abilities API.
