The template and CSS files are located in the <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Default<\/span> theme. The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">template files<\/span> are PHP files that contain a mixture of HTML, Template Tags, and PHP code. When you are building your custom comment system theme, you will use template files to affect the layout and design of different parts of your comment section.<\/p>\n<p>You can edit these files in an upgrade-safe way using overrides. Just copy the <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">style.css<\/span> or any<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> template file<\/span> you need to a folder within your current active WordPress theme named <strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\/wpdiscuz\/<\/span><\/strong> and start to customize. When you copy other template files which are located in folders you should create the same folders in the target <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\/wpdiscuz\/<\/strong><\/span> folder too. You should keep the same folder\/file structure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong> To customize the comment avatar section of the<strong> Layout #1<\/strong>, copy this template file:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\">wpdiscuz\/themes\/default\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">layouts\/1\/avatar.html<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>and paste to:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\/wp-content\/themes\/mytheme\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>wpdiscuz\/<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">layouts\/1\/avatar.html<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>The copied files will now automatically override the wpDiscuz default template files. All changes in this file will not be lost on plugin update.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> <\/span>Do not edit these files within the core plugin itself as they are overwritten during the upgrade process and any customizations will be lost.<\/p>\n<h2>wpDiscuz Theme and Template Files<\/h2>\n<p>wpDiscuz themes are located in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\/wpdiscuz\/themes\/<\/span> directory. At the moment there is only one theme (one folder) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\/default\/<\/span>. This is the default wpDiscuz theme, it contains following files:<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Style CSS Files<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">style.css<\/span> (The main style sheet of the <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Default<\/span> theme)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">style-rtl.css<\/span> (RTL version of the main style sheet)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\/css\/style-minimal.css<\/span> <\/span>(<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Minimum<\/span> style CSS file)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\/css\/style-minimal-rtl.css<\/span> (RTL version of the <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Minimum<\/span> style CSS file)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008080;\">PHP Files<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">class.WpdiscuzWalker.php<\/span> (wpDiscuz custom walker class, that extends the <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Walker_Comment<\/span> class, gives you the ability to override the default comment structure)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">comment-form.php<\/span> (Comment form builder PHP file. We recommend customize comment form using wpDiscuz <a href=\"https:\/\/wpdiscuz.com\/docs\/wpdiscuz-7\/getting-started\/manage-comment-forms\/comment-form-builder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comment form builder API<\/a> located in Dashboard &gt; wpDiscuz &gt; Forms admin page)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Comment Layout HTML Files<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Almost all customization of comment design and structure can be done using comment layout files. wpDiscuz 7 comes with three comment layouts. Layouts template files are located in themes\u2019 <span style=\"color: #993300;\">\/layouts\/<\/span> folder. In the <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Default<\/span> theme\u2019s <span style=\"color: #993300;\">\/layouts\/<\/span> folder you can find three layouts with separate folders. By default, your comment system uses the <strong>Layout #1<\/strong>. Therefore, you should use template files of <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>\/1\/<\/strong><\/span> folder in the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">wpdiscuz\/themes\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">default\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\">layouts\/<\/span> directory. You can manage comment layout in<a href=\"https:\/\/wpdiscuz.com\/docs\/wpdiscuz-7\/getting-started\/manage-comment-forms\/comment-form-settings\/#comment-thread-layout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> comment form settings<\/a>. Depended on your selected layout, you should customize template files from corresponding folders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Layout #1<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">wpdiscuz\/themes\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">default\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\">layouts\/<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">1\/<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Layout #2<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">wpdiscuz\/themes\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">default\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\">layouts\/<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">2\/<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Layout #3<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">wpdiscuz\/themes\/<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">default<\/span>\/<span style=\"color: #993300;\">layouts\/<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">3\/<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each layout contains all template files for each comment component separately. These template files only contain HTML code. All dynamic components are provided as <span style=\"color: #333399;\">shortcodes<\/span>. These <span style=\"color: #333399;\">shortcodes<\/span> are being replaced with dynamic data and displayed on comment list. For example the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">{DATE}<\/span> shortcode is replaced with a real comment posting date <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">3 week ago<\/span>. You should not make any change with this <span style=\"color: #333399;\">shortcodes<\/span>. You can add new HTML code or change the default HTML code. Also, you can remove any component and <span style=\"color: #333399;\">shortcode<\/span> you want. This is the list of layouts template files.
