Critics Consensus

An infectiously fun blend of special effects and comedy, with Bill Murray's hilarious deadpan performance leading a cast of great comic turns.

Ivan Reitman’s enjoyably silly (and occasionally genuinely scary) supernatural blockbuster about a team of amateurish ectoplasmic exorcists rescuing New York from a plague of ghouls was the most expensive comedy of its time.

Ghostbusters is like romping through Disneyland's haunted house with Bill Murray.

Ghostbusters is primarily a showcase for Murray, who slinks through the movie muttering his lines in his usual cheeky fashion and getting off an occasionally hilarious crack that proves he's thoroughly enjoying himself.

"Ghostbusters" is a very funny movie until it gets a bit bogged down in its gaudy special effects.

More than 40 years on from becoming the first big-budget comedy, Ghostbusters continues to sparkle because it remains funny and its premise still works.

Ghostbusters, for all its wonderful silliness, is an artifact that helps us understand its time, as well as ours.

Ghostbusters was once again an amazing tale of four brave men who battle ghosts in New York City. Nothing is more mesmerizing than how good overcomes evil and wins the day. Sigourney Weaver is at her tantalizing best, and Rick Moranis lends a comic flair. I highly recommend this movie for all ages.
