Erica Shepherd was one of the CIA's most brilliant operatives until she became one of the greatest traitors in American history, serving a life sentence in a Supermax prison. Now, to save her daughter, she must team up with FBI agent Will Keaton -- a man whose life she destroyed -- to track down a fiercely dangerous, elusive criminal and his legion of spies. While working with Shepherd goes against every fiber of his being, Keaton knows that sometimes to catch a spy, you must trust one.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite a set of stellar performances led by the capable Jennifer Carpenter, The Enemy Within stumbles into an overly formulaic narrative that fails to produce any real spark.

Grading on that curve, "The Enemy Within" doesn't bring much new to the party but offers enough polish on this earnestly played, tried-and-true formula so as not to be, unlike some of these shows, its own worst enemy. Go to Full Review Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter Feb 26, 2019
It isn't the worst in the network's line of dramas featuring generic intelligence operatives forced to team up with morally and ethically compromised partners best kept in containment. Go to Full Review Mike Hale New York Times Feb 25, 2019
The Enemy Within is a predictably thin and hyped-up network concoction. Go to Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Feb 27, 2019
No charm. No camaraderie or sexual tension. It's just familiar faces regurgitating dry, boring dialogue, as though reading from cue cards. Go to Full Review Joel Keller Decider Feb 27, 2019
Just go back and watch The Blacklist from the beginning. You'll be watching a much more entertaining show. Go to Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Feb 27, 2019

Theo S. Héro + @RT09212872 Mar 7, 2025 We like Mr. Chestnut however the supporting cast is REALLY weak. It's really tough for shows/movies to make the fake-tough girls believable and worth watching. Horrible fight scenes, Not the worst but a tough watch. See more Mar 3, 2021 Writing is uneven in the early episodes. But it takes off near the end. See more Feb 27, 2021 Whoever wrote this should be shot. Very badly written. In episode two, a major character is assassinated inside FBI HQ by a mole. In episode three, no mention is made of this event. No taking stock of the fact that someone inside the organization is working against them. Is this as stupid as I think it is? See more Feb 9, 2021 good damm, damm good ;) See more Nov 13, 2020 The acting and story were amazing. I would kill for Netflix or someone to pick this up. See more Aug 16, 2020 Good thought provoking story. Americans probably used to silly tv were unable to understand real story See more Read all reviews
