A group of teenagers sheltered from the dangers of the post-apocalyptic world receive a message that inspires them to leave the safety of the only home they have ever known and embark on a cross-country journey to save their father. Set in Nebraska 10 years after the zombie apocalypse, the limited series is the third television series in "The Walking Dead" franchise, and focuses on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse. The teens struggle with their roles in the outside world; some will become heroes and others villains, but all of them will be changed forever.

Critics Consensus

World Beyond's strong performances and new perspective within The Walking Dead universe aren't enough to make it stand out in an increasingly crowded franchise.

Even if they're fitting thoughts for the present circumstances, it's a hell of a lot of speechifying. And that's World Beyond in its opening hour: a lot of talk, and not much to show for it.

My Walking Dead enthusiasm tank is running on empty. The mothership, even with its end in sight, is on notice.

That's the big problem with "World Beyond." Its drama feels contrived and manufactured, less born of characters bouncing off of each other and more "we gotta fill time on this new spinoff."

THE WALKING DEAD: WORLD BEYOND is a different kind of show from what we've seen in The Walking Dead Universe and something that is suitable to watch with the people who might find The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead to be too much.

These new survivors probably aren't interesting enough to attract a massive new audience. But for fans, this is a welcome, lighter addition to the post-apocalyptic family...

The original Dead is one of my all time favorite sci fi series. This is nowhere near as good. In fact, the only thing I can recommend about it is the special effects. That's because the same people did them.

While some dialogues are a bit naive and a few character decisions feel odd, the overall story is quite solid, it keeps you entertained.

This was the worst POS I've watched in a long time, maybe ever. I consider it an insult to my backside as it was forced to bear my weight whilst watching this absolute load of dribble. Storyline weak horror weak, action very little and average seriously DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! (PS I just had this playing in the background and it was so bad I had to sign up and write this review to save others!!)

This was a bit painful to watch. I have watched the other spinoffs, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, Those Who Lived, so I gave this a shot. While this gave some good background information on the CRM, I found the script and the acting largely a struggle to plod through. Julia Ormond does a good job here. The teen angst seemed misplace, and the characters were largely unlikeable. The flashbacks were ok to set the tone and character arcs but still, did not make me like them any more, maybe except for the Elton character, and Huck. I am sure there were moments where the others were ok but I can hardly remember any, meaning this show made such little impression. I found myself just speeding ahead to get over the sappy existential conversations that just dragged. I am glad Season 2 was better, as Season 1 just dragged along and was more cliched teen drama than a zombie show.

I enjoyed the characters and performances but the overall general concept of what the story is, just is not very good. I do not understand why AMC would waste so much time expanding the universes if they had no intention of wrapping things up and bringing it all together.
