"Vida" is a drama series about two Mexican-American siblings from East Los Angeles. Party girl Lyn lives a carefree life in the Bay Area. She couldn't be more different than, or distanced from, her sister Emma, with whom she has no relationship. A death in their family forces them to return to their old stomping grounds, where they confront long-repressed feelings and learn the surprising truth about their mother's identity.

These are a lot of heavy themes to squeeze into the six-episode first season of a half-hour drama, but Vida tackles each one gracefully within a story of two sisters who reunite after the death of their mother.

There's a lot more tucked inside Vida than the story of the Hernandez sisters, but that story is plenty gripping all on its own, and the performances are exceptional.

Poignant, funny, and refreshingly frank in its depiction of the myriad queer identities that exist, Vida is a true gift — and its first season is, obviously, a great place to start.

In addition to being an entertaining television show, Vida is a political act, that challenges stereotypes and humanizes the lives of Mexican-Americans and Latinx people.

This show has very poor writing and direction. A lot of the character's decisions make no sense at all, and most of them are unlikable. There is also some weird tone shifts right in the middle of certain scenes.

One of the best series I've seen! Every second in this show is perfect.

It was a great season but the season finale ended too abruptly. This show and it's fans deserve a better finale than we got. Starz should do something about it.

A really great show about two sisters in downtown L.A. navigating family traumas, Chicano politics, and LGBT issues. Done with humor and flair. The leads are great.
