Call Michael Myers the Backstreet Boys, because he's back (ALRIGHT!). Yes, the slasher movie icon who served as the centerpiece of one of the numerous revolutionary horror films back in the 1970's is back in Halloween after nearly a decade of absence from movie theater screens. All the other sequels and the two Rob Zombie reboots have been disregarded to create a David Gordon Green directed follow-up solely to the original John Carpenter directed movie, one that picks up forty years after that fateful night that he came home that left Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) permanently psychologically scarred to the point that she now resides in an isolated house that's fortified to the brim to keep anyone, especially Michael Myers, out.
Welcome to Land of The Nerds, where I, Lisa Laman, use my love of cinema to explore, review and talk about every genre of film imaginable!

Kurt Russell And A Go-For-Broke Attitude Shine In Big Trouble In Little China
To look at the career of director John Carpenter in an in-depth manner is to realize that this guy was nothing if not tonally versatile in the work he produced. The creepy horror film Halloween launched his vocation as a filmmaker into the stratosphere, while the 1982 effort The Thing returned Carpenter to the horror genre with plenty of newfound science-fiction elements to keep things fresh. John Carpenter's 1986 feature Big Trouble In Little China is a bold departure of either of those previously mentioned movies in a myriad of ways, not only in the way it constantly uses Eastern and Chinese imagery but also in its more zany light-hearted atmosphere.

Halloween Is A Terrifying Movie About What Happens When Fear Intrudes On Normalcy
Even if no other high-quality horror films had been released that decade, it's quite likely that the 1970's would have cultivated a persona as a landmark decade for horror cinema solely thanks to the presence of the massive success of the micro-budget horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But that phenomenal horror feature would not be the only low-budget entry in that genre to soar in this era, as four years after Leatherface sliced up a bunch of teenagers Michael Myers would enter the world of horror cinema via Halloween and, much like Leatherface before him, change the landscape of horror movies forever.

Madea To Haunt Movie Theaters This October
Remember the Chris Rock film Top Five? Well, at one point in the film, the poster for a film entitled Boo! A Madea Halloween is shown, as well as a long line of patrons eager to see the motion picture. It was a humorous little moment that had faded from my memory...until yesterday when it was announced that Tyler Perry would be ending his two years hiatus from directing (his last film was the March 2014 effort Single Mom's Club) to make that parody poster into a real feature film. That's right folks, Boo! A Madea Halloween is coming to a theater near you on October 21, 2016.

Guillermo Del Toro+Gothic Imagery+Awesome Cast=Crimson Peak Trailer
The works of Guillermo Del Toro thrive on captivating imagery, and it looks like his next film, Crimson Peak, will follow suit. There's some top-notch talent in here (Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston? Be still my beating heart!) and it looks like he's pulled out some extraordinary visuals here. Not too surprising on the latter, but it's still awesome to watch. Check out the teaser below!

New Nightcrawler Trailer Shows Darker, Not Darko, Side of Jake Gyllenhaal
Matthew McConaughey isn't the only actor experiencing a resurgence as of late. Jake Gyllenhaal has also had a string of well received roles lately. I thought he was a bit underwhelming in Prisoners, but I felt he was great in Source Code and the first trailer for Nightcrawler made me think this would be another impressive role for the actor. Now that a new and longer trailer for the film is out and you can watch it below and then read my thoughts on it.
