Spy x Family Season 3

Despite occasional setbacks, Operation Strix has remained on track to extract sensitive information from the enigmatic politician Donovan Desmond. To this end, spy Loid Forger has managed to maintain his pretend family consisting of his telepathic daughter, Anya; assassin wife, Yor; and their clairvoyant dog, Bond. Still the only one aware of everyone's true identities, Anya tries to sustain the family's cohesion while working to befriend Donovan's son Damian, her Eden Academy classmate.

However, Anya's efforts instead earn her another Tonitrus Bolt, bringing her closer to getting expelled and jeopardizing the operation's success. Hearing the news, Loid faints from shock. In his unconsciousness, he reminisces about his tragic past and his journey to becoming a spy. Realizing what Operation Strix means to him and the world, Loid finds renewed motivation. Although they each work toward their own covert goals, the Forgers continue to cherish their chaotic yet blissful family life.

Season 3 feels like the Forger family has finally become a little more than just a fake family, and that’s what I enjoyed most.

I really liked seeing more of Anya, Loid and Yor’s everyday lives while the bigger spy story continues in the background. Anya is still the heart of the show for me, and her reactions to everything remain hilarious. Loid and Yor also get more moments where their feelings for the family start becoming harder to ignore.

The series still balances comedy, action and wholesome family moments really well. Some episodes are slower and more focused on everyday life, but I honestly don't mind ... that because the characters are fun to spend time with.

The animation remains colorful and expressive, and the action scenes still look great when they appear. What keeps the show working for me is that the characters have flaws , Loid overthinks everything, Yor struggles with normal family life, and Anya is just a kid trying to keep everyone's secrets together.

It may not have the same surprise factor as Season 1 anymore, but the Forger family has become so likable that I still enjoy spending time with them.

Mixed Feelings

The third season of Spy x Family sacrifices humor for unremarkable action. There's less Slice-of-Life comedy here than there are half-written East-West plotlines and throwaway WISE missions. There's violence, there's danger, but not a lot of Spy x Family. The show tries to be more action-thriller than what it was originally intended for -- which is SoL comedy. And it seems that the episodes are lacking in that department. Instead of Eden college misadventures, we get tragic backstories. Instead of Yor's kitchen nightmares, we get a villain with a lackluster objective. The East-West politics and counter-espionage narratives have always been used to deliver the show's ... punch-line. So, it's understandable that they lack depth. But now that Endo is using that pattern for two major story arcs, the pacing for the episodes feel slower than they need to be. Throughout the show, you'll often find yourself thinking, "Just cut to the part where Anya continues to annoy Desmond. Just cut to the part where Yor is overthinking about dinner." It sprinkles a little bit of the SoL charm here and there. However, it cuts off to the next WISE report without giving the audience so much as a breather. Although the show reveals new revelations about certain characters, the adoption of darker backstories and unimpressive action sequences can really hamper the delivery.

When I hopped into Spy x Family I did it because of the hype around it, it was popular so I figured it would be good. At the beginning, I had expectations about how the plot would develop, it seemed to be a slice-of-life kind of anime, but then it was clear it was just a comedy and that it would just detour from the plot yet eventually move forward, but as I finished watching this season I can confidently conclude that this is garbage.

This show in general, including all of its seasons is just another circle of hell, nothing changes, everything keeps repeating itself, ... and there is no reason why you should watch this. None of the plot points have seen any progression, the "gold stars" that Anya was working towards have no real meaning in the story, the relationship between the characters remains unchanged, they just keep introducing new and annoying characters to make new stupid episodes with jokes that would only work with the new characters as they would not fit the current ones. This is a comedy anime, but for a comedy anime it's not even good, you'll catch me chuckling once every 5 episodes, that's it.

There are several comedies where "plot points" remain undeveloped and these are sometimes good, but this is just a mediocre comedy, and overall a terrible show. There are better comedy animes out there, actual slices of life with progression. There is no point in watching this shit.
