The members of the odd Addams Family are up to more macabre antics in this sequel. This time around, Gomez Addams (Raul Julia) and his wife, Morticia (Anjelica Huston), are celebrating the arrival of a baby boy. But siblings Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) are none too happy about the new addition, and try their best to eliminate the infant. When nanny Debbie Jellinsky (Joan Cusack) appears to keep the kids in line, her presence leads to an unexpected treacherous twist.

Critics Consensus

New, well-developed characters add dimension to this batty satire, creating a comedy much more substantial than the original.

The result, if you've seen the first effort, is utterly predictable throughout since the whole conception is stymied by the fact that this is a black comedy designed for a PG certificate, and thus only a very pale shade of gray.

Addams Family Values is a rare comedy sequel that actually improves on the original, and the reason, I suspect, is that Rudnick, who wrote the screenplay, has been allowed to run wild.

Addams Family Values is a slick, witty and mischievous delight, and one of those rare sequels which surpasses its predecessor. Not that the latter was a difficult task.

Addams Family Values becomes a veritable joke factory, where Lloyd’s physical comedy is unlocked, Ricci’s deadpan trends even deader, and Morticia and Gomez remain the platonic ideal of sexy goth parents.

There’s a lot about "Values" that I don’t think can be appreciated *as much* in adolescence, whereas the shifted perspective not only makes the film make more sense, but increases the appreciation.

Addams Family Values is still creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky, but perhaps it’s not as altogether ooky as the first movie. Perhaps it’s because the family is separated for a good chunk of the film. Also, is it just me, or did more innocent people meet their demise in this sequel? Regardless, Joan Cusack is a delightfully devilish addition to the perfectly ghastly cast. Although it made me sad when I realized that Raul Julia died less than a year after this was released. The Addams Family is still my favorite cinematic adaptation of this macabre comic, but Addams Family Values really is a scream.

Not as good as the first one, but very good. The only problem I have with the film is that its a bit goofy, but it makes up for it with its brilliant story and hilarious comedy.

Very much felt like the springboard to getting Wednesday's own show on Netflix - it's a fun and goofy comedy with the watch.
