Celtics' Payton Pritchard: Lands contract extension Tuesday
Pritchard signed a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension with the Celtics on Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Pritchard's extension includes a mutual option for the 2029-30 campaign. The 28-year-old guard is coming off the best statistical year of his career, averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 0.7 steals across 32.4 minutes per game in 79 regular-season appearances (50 starts). Regardless of whether the 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year starts, he figures to play a sizable role for the Jaylen Brown-less Celtics.

Celtics' Derrick White: Solid outing in blowout win
White posted 15 points (5-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 26 minutes during Saturday's 144-106 preseason win over the 76ers.
White finished behind Jayson Tatum, Payton Pritchard and Hugo Gonzalez in scoring. However, despite the 32-year-old's scoring contributions, he shot just 20.0 percent from deep, which isn't an encouraging sign after he shot a career-low 27.3 percent from downtown during the 2026 Playoffs. With Jaylen Brown now in Philadelphia, White could see more offensive opportunities than ever in 2026-27, and since he worked on his shot during the offseason, his three-point issues might be behind him.

Celtics' Hugo Gonzalez: Strong performance Saturday
Gonzalez logged 17 points (6-7 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds and two assists over 21 minutes during Saturday's 144-106 preseason win over Philadelphia.
Gonzalez played the entire fourth quarter and knocked down three triples in the frame to end the game as the Celtics' third-leading scorer behind Payton Pritchard (25 points) and Jayson Tatum (23 points). Gonzalez is one of the players that the Celtics hope can grow into a larger role after the team traded Jaylen Brown to the Sixers in exchange for Paul George. Gonzalez showed flashes of potential during his rookie year, but it's unclear how consistent his playing time will be in 2026-27, given the presence of Sam Hauser, Baylor Scheierman, Ron Harper (shoulder) and Jordan Walsh.

Celtics' Paul George: Elite defensively in Celtics debut
George registered 13 points (3-10 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 5-6 FT), five rebounds, four assists and five steals over 25 minutes during the Celtics' 144-106 preseason win over the 76ers on Saturday.
George didn't have the most efficient night offensively, but he demonstrated his defensive chops during Saturday's win, with four of his game-high five steals taking place in the first half. The veteran forward was the Celtics' return for Jaylen Brown in the offseason, and it'll be interesting to see how George and Jayson Tatum fit together early on in the 2026-27 season. George figures to have his preseason reps limited before the Celtics' regular-season opener against the Pistons on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Celtics' Payton Pritchard: Leads Boston in scoring Saturday
Pritchard posted 25 points (7-12 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 6-6 FT), seven assists and four rebounds over 24 minutes during Saturday's 144-106 preseason win over the 76ers.
Pritchard helped the Celtics race out to a commanding lead in the second quarter with 11 points, nine of which came on three triples. The seventh-year point guard has been the Celtics' offensive spark plug the last few seasons, and he operated in a starting role for most of last year in the absence of Jayson Tatum. Pritchard is expected to revert to a rotational role now that Tatum is back, but with Jaylen Brown now in Philadelphia and Paul George in Boston, Pritchard could be the Celtics' second offensive option on most nights.

Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Scores 23 in preseason blowout win
Tatum posted 23 points (9-19 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds, four assists and a steal across 27 minutes in Saturday's 144-106 preseason win over the 76ers.
The 76ers rested several key players, including Joel Embiid and LeBron James, so Tatum took advantage of favorable matchups to rank second on the Celtics in scoring behind Payton Pritchard, who exploded for 25 points off the bench. This was Tatum's first game of the preseason, and the Celtics are expected to monitor his workload carefully to have him in top condition for the regular-season opener against the Pistons on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Celtics' Luka Garza: Leaves Saturday's game late
Garza (nose) went to the locker room late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Bobby Manning of CLNS Media Network reports.
Garza took an inadvertent elbow to the nose from teammate Chris Cenac, and the former was taken to the locker room shortly thereafter. He didn't return to the hardwood, ending his night with eight points (4-9 FG), seven rebounds and one assist over 11 minutes.

Celtics' Neemias Queta: Available Saturday
Queta (rest) is available for Saturday's game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Queta didn't play against the Cavaliers on Thursday, but there's no indication that he won't be available for Saturday's game. Mitchell Robinson (rest) is starting at center, so Queta will come off the bench against Philadelphia.

Celtics' Sam Hauser: Available Saturday
Hauser (rest) is available for Saturday's preseason contest against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Hauser didn't play in the preseason win over the Cavaliers on Thursday, but he'll be able to log minutes off the bench in this contest. Hauser has a strong grip on a rotation spot, and a strong showing in preseason could boost his chances to earn consistent playing time once the regular season starts. He's projected to open the season as the backup small forward behind Paul George.

Celtics' Hugo Gonzalez: Headed to bench
Gonzalez will come off the bench in Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
After sitting out the Celtics' preseason opener, Jayson Tatum (rest) and Paul George (rest) are back and starting, so Gonzalez will shift to a reserve role. Gonzalez averaged 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds as a reserve last season.

Celtics' Devin Carter: Won't play due to illness
Carter (illness) has been ruled out for Saturday's exhibition game against the 76ers, Jack Simone of BostonSportsJournal.com reports.
Carter played 25 minutes during Boston's preseason opener against Cleveland on Thursday, but the third-year pro is under the weather and not be available for Saturday's contest. His next chance to play is Wednesday against Charlotte.

Celtics' Ron Harper: Dealing with shoulder injury
Harper (shoulder) has been ruled out for Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Jack Simone of BostonSportsJournal.com reports.
Harper is working through right shoulder illness, which has prevented him from playing in each of the Celtics' first two preseason games. His next opportunity to play is Wednesday against the Hornets.

Celtics' Luka Garza: Back to bench role
Garza is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Garza returns to the bench with Mitchell Robinson (undisclosed) getting the start at center. Garza provided 22 points (6-17 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 7-8 FT), 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists across 27 minutes in Thursday's 124-113 preseason win over Cleveland, and he's making a strong case to earn a spot in the rotation even if he'll compete with Neemias Queta and Robinson for playing time.

Celtics' Baylor Scheierman: Headed to bench
Scheierman will come off the bench in Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Scheierman will return to a reserve role with Paul George (rest) set to make his Boston debut Saturday. As a reserve last season, Scheierman averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Celtics' Derrick White: Starting Saturday
White (rest) is in the Celtics' starting lineup against the 76ers on Saturday, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
White and other prominent Celtics players like Jayson Tatum (rest) and Paul George (rest) will be on the floor for Saturday's exhibition contest. It'll be White's first preseason game as he gears up for Boston's regular-season opener against Detroit on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Mitchell Robinson: Available and starting
Robinson (undisclosed) is starting in Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Robinson missed the previous preseason contest due to an undisclosed injury, but the big man will get the nod and start Saturday against a depleted 76ers team. Robinson is expected to be the defensive anchor in the Celtics' lineup when the regular season starts, but given his injury history, his workload should be monitored in the preseason.

Celtics' Mike Conley: Headed to bench
Conley will come off the bench in Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Conley started in Thursday's exhibition with Derrick White (rest) unavailable, but White is back and starting, so Conley will return to a reserve role. The 38-year-old veteran will provide some emergency depth for the Celtics at the point guard position this season, but he's not expected to have a significant role in the rotation.

Celtics' Paul George: Playing Saturday
George (rest) is in the Celtics' starting lineup against the 76ers on Saturday, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
George will suit up in a Celtics uniform for the first time and face his former team in Saturday's exhibition contest. His playing time figures to be limited until the Celtics' regular-season opener against the Pistons on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Starting Saturday
Tatum (rest) is in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
The Celtics will be starting most of their regulars in this preseason contest, meaning Tatum will return to the hardwood after missing the previous game. It wouldn't be surprising if they monitor his workload, with the regular season right around the corner.

Celtics' Payton Pritchard: Says he'll play Saturday
Pritchard (rest) said he'll play in Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Jay King of The Athletic reports.
Most of Boston's regular players rested during the preseason opener, including Pritchard, but the veteran point guard will make his debut Saturday. He's coming off a career-best season during which he averaged 17.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds across 79 regular-season games (50 starts).
